Celebrate the legacy of the Niagara Movement and their lasting impact on music and society Imagine a summer afternoon filled with the vibrant sounds of jazz and the powerful echoes of history. The Appalachian Chamber Music Festival and the National Park Service invite you to a free concert unlike any other, celebrating the legacy of the Niagara Movement. The afternoon unfolds with a captivating program that bridges past and present. The renowned Howard Burns Quartet brings the vibrant energy of jazz to the stage, a genre that owes much to the fight for equality championed by the Niagara Movement. Featuring works by Storer College graduate and early 20th century musician, Don Redman. The second half of the program highlights the world premiere of a new chamber work about the Niagara movement by Rufus Reid, living jazz legend and Don Redman Award winner. A true innovator, Reid's composition promises to be a powerful testament to the enduring spirit of the Niagara Movement's vision. The program also includes a selection of enthralling chamber works by acclaimed Black American composers. hr logo.jpg

Verne Quartett

In Kooperation mit dem Internationalen Theater Frankfurt Konzertdauer: ca. 90 Minuten – inklusive Pause Weitere Informationen Musical diversity on the theater stage. This time, the International Theater is all about encounters, connections and fusions. About the lively interplay between different cultures. And, as always at Kammerflimmern, a stimulating musical evening in a special setting. US-American Steven Snowden, for example, combines American folk song traditions with the music of indigenous peoples. And Derrick Skye, who lives in California, seamlessly combines rhythmic and melodic elements from various cultures around the world with modern American classical music. And a work by Kerem Memişoğlu, which combines variations on a well-known Turkish song with famous music by Johann Sebastian Bach, will also be exciting. Konzertdauer: ca. 110 Minuten – inklusive Pause Weitere Informationen Music in remembrance of the horrors of war with musicians of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony from five countries whose grandfathers were enemies and fought each other in the Second World War – a concert of retrospection, remembrance and hope! With his 8th String Quartet, the Russian Dmitri Shostakovich created a moving musical memorial to the victims of fascism and war in 1960. The American Aaron Copland was affected by the death of a friendly lieutenant during the Second World War and he dealt with this in his only violin sonata in 1943. In »Tenebrae«, the Romanian-Israeli composer Osvaldo Golijov draws on his own experiences and juxtaposes the violence of war with the tranquillity of a planetarium and the hope of peace. In between, two contemporary works by the American Jessie Montgomery and the Japanese Michiru Oshimas take up the ideas of peace and remembrance and open up the senses. 2024 Season We are thrilled to announce the programs for Torrey Chamber Music Festival’s 8th Season, Stories and Legends. Through our accessible free preview series, our ticketed feature performances, and our new all ages interactive family concert, we are excited to reach audiences throughout Wayne County and the Colorado Plateau! This year’s theme explores storytelling through music, choosing works where composers showcase personal narratives as well as popular and folk legends.
